KOTA KINABALU: Two letters from former Chief Minister Datuk Seri Shafie Apdal supporting identity document applications have raised concerns about political interference in the registration system.
The letters, dated April and October 2019, include written instructions for the approval of applications sent to state and federal officers.
KDCA Youth Chairman Steve Johnny Mositun (pic) questioned why a Chief Minister could directly influence identity approvals, calling it inappropriate and worrying.
He said MyKAS, though seen as temporary, is a pathway to citizenship, and any political involvement in its approval process must be scrutinised.
Steve urged the National Registration Department (NRD) and Home Ministry to reveal how many approvals Shafie supported and called for an investigation by the MACC and police.
