SIPITANG: The State Government is urged to take strict action against logging lorries which are damaging the road leading to Long Pasia (pic).

A resident, Jeniffer Opai, said the worsening condition of the road, especially along Jalan Iburuh and Kg Ulu Bole, was due to logging trucks.

A letter from the Public Works Department (JKR) dated March 20 instructed logging companies to halt operations during the rainy season to prevent further damage.

Jeniffer said the logging trucks should abide by the order to cease their activities, to prevent further deterioration of the roads.

“However, despite the order, the companies have not made any efforts to repair the road, leaving it filled with large puddles and potholes, making it difficult for small vehicles, including ambulances, to pass through.”

Jeniffer highlighted the challenges faced by local residents, saying they were struggling to transport their agricultural products, and medical emergencies are delayed due to the poor road conditions.

“If someone is sick or a pregnant woman needs urgent care, the ambulance can’t get through the damaged road in time,” she added.

She also said the damaged road has affected local tourism in Long Pasia, as visitors are discouraged from coming.

The matter was raised in Parliament by Sipitang MP Datuk Matbali Musah, who called for urgent action to upgrade the road for the benefit of residents.
