Just recently, according to Sin Chew Daily, a teacher from Sarawak has been slapped with a RM1,000 fine and a peace bond for 6 months.

The accused is a 52-year-old teacher in Sarawak and has allegedly asked his 12-year-old female student to head over to his office. When she was at his office, he locked the doors and gave her a toy along with plastic flowers.

He also asked the student to call him “daddy” instead of “teacher”. Fearing that something may happen to her, she quickly accepted the gifts and ran out of his office.

She then spoke to her friends about the incident and allegedly went for counselling as she felt disturbed.

“I went for counselling sessions and when I told my counselling teacher about it, they told me to not tell anyone and that they will investigate the matter”, she said.

The victim’s mother found out about the incident through her friend’s parents, and she decided to meet the principal.

When the principal was confronted by the parents, they said that they weren’t aware of the matter as the counsellor did not mention anything. The victim’s mother then decided to lodge a police report.

The accused was brought to court and the court’s decision was to charge him with a RM1,000 fine and a 6-month peace bond that he has to promise to be on good behaviour. The accused was charged under section 67 of the Criminal Procedure Code and was unrepresented.
