KUDAT: Wira Warisan called on Sabah Electricity to take immediate action to address overgrown vegetation entangling electricity poles and cables in Kampung Korina, here.

Its chief Terence Au said the sight of poles and power lines covered by vines, branches and wild growth had become a common occurrence across Sabah, particularly along main roads.

“This is a clear picture of maintenance failure that endangers lives and tarnishes the image of the State,” he said in a statement.

He warned that the situation in Kampung Korina illustrated the seriousness of the problem, with poles and cables completely engulfed by creeping plants and shrubs, posing risks of outages, fires or electrocution, especially during storms or heavy rain.

“With the appointment of the new Sabah Electricity Chairman, this is the opportunity to prove they are serious about public safety and not just waiting for a tragedy to happen,” he said.

Au said people expected new leadership at Sabah Electricity to bring a fresh approach to maintenance, beginning with urgent action in Kampung Korina before expanding to a statewide clean-up.

“Public safety and welfare must be prioritised, not treated as an excuse to only act after repeated complaints. Lives and well-being must never be put at risk,” he said.
