RANAU: Many varieties of durian are now in the market. This includes the common favorite D24, Udang Merah as well as Musang King.
However, they do not come cheap with one kg of the Musang King variety costing around RM60, while the Udang Merah at RM8 per kg.
Many prefer to settle for packed offerings of mixed varieties for RM10 to RM25.
Fruit vendors hope the Local Authority (PBT) and Ranau District Council (MDR) would organise a Durian Festival.

“Now is the right time. Especially with Independence Day Sabah Day and Malaysia Day celebrations in full swing. Many will be able to patronise because of the holiday season,” she said.
The Durian Festival at the Ranau district level has not been held since the Covid-19 pandemic.
Among the durians available are, D8, D100, D144, D168, D7, D5, D163 and D99 at prices that are “affordable”.
“The price is still okay. All is negotiable if there are customers who buy wholesale,” said Halisah.
Local fruits such as durian, sweet mango, mangosteen, tarap, langsat, golden melon, pineapple and many more are also available at the Ranau Open Market.
