LABUAN: The death of a breadwinner when his motorcycle hit a pothole in the city of all places suggests lack of coordination despite Sabah having five road concessionaires with no clear cut jurisdiction on repairs and maintenance, said an activist.

“For some strange reason only Sabah seems to have this problem of five concession firms where nobody can tell for sure whether it is a local authority or council road, PWD/JKR road, federal road, State road or even village road and under whose jurisdiction they come under.

Advertisement (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});“This could be the reason why Sabah has become infamous in social media as the state with roads matching the surface of the moon,” said Lau Seng Kiat.

He said the preventable tragedy near the Lido Flyover in the city last month reflected the failure of the five concessionaires, State Ministry of Works and City Hall to monitor and keep Sabah’s roads safe.
