LAHAD DATU: The community is told to play a role in taking care of fire hydrants to ensure that it is always in good condition and ready to be used in the event of an emergency.
Lahad Datu Fire and Rescue Station Chief, Sumsoa Rashid, said that the responsibility of taking care of the fire hydrants does not only rest with firemen but needs to be carried together.
“The fire hydrant plays an important role when there is a fire. It is the source of water for the fire engine pump.
“Therefore, it must always be taken care of so that it is in good condition and works when needed,” he said.
According to Sumsoa, the community can bear the responsibility of taking care of the fire hydrant by reporting any damage to the fire hydrant to the Fire Department.
He said the community could also report fire hydrants that are blocked or closed off by irresponsible individuals.
“We hope that the community can join hands with the fire department in ensuring that every hydrant is in good condition and ready to be used whenever needed,” he added.
Earlier, Lahad Datu Fire and Rescue personnel inspected fire hydrants in several locations around Sarikei to ensure they were in good condition.
