KUALA LUMPUR – Cameron Ng has been appointed as the new head coach of the national women’s U-20 football squad, announced the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) today.
The 44-year-old’s appointment was made after discussions and a comprehensive assessment between FAM president Datuk Hamidin Mohd Amin, technical director Scott O’Donell, and women’s football committee chairman Datuk Suraya Yaacob.
In a statement today, Scott said Cameron has been overseeing the national body’s grassroots unit since 2020.
As such, he was given the new role following his credibility as a coach through various player development activities that he has carried out.
“As we know, Cameron is not only active in player development programmes, but he is also one of the instructors for the coaching education unit run by Lim Kim Chon.
“He has shown his seriousness in coaching through grassroots programs, and this kind of commitment is what the national women’s U-20 football squad needs, especially with the 2024 Women’s U-20 Asia Cup Qualifying campaign that will take place next month.
“Cameron’s commitment can also be seen when he assisted Malayan Tigress head coach Soleen Al-Zoubi in the recent trial and player selection session.
“With the collaboration between Soleen and Cameron, who have been constantly exchanging ideas and opinions behind the scenes, I hope it can create a more professional and positive environment for the national women’s soccer squad,” said Scott.
Also present during the announcement was FAM secretary-general Noor Azman Rahman.
Meanwhile, Soleen welcomed Cameron’s appointment as head coach of the Malayan Tigress youth squad.
“Cameron has a high understanding of the modern football system, and that quality is essential to form a strong and more competitive team.
“His ability in coaching can be seen through his commitment to player development and his experience can certainly be applied in the Malayan Tigress U-20 squad,” said Soleen.
On top of his new role as the national women’s U-20 squad head coach, Cameron will continue his duties as the head of the grassroots unit. – The Vibes, February 20, 2023
