On the eve of his annual 5-week home leave passage to London, I met my good friend and colleague, Yazdi Jehangir Bankwala, COO of Sejahtera Leadership Initiative & Global Sejahtera in KL to sign some work documents. I had the opportunity to request as the sidelines of his visit around United Kingdom and European Union countries to look for new development on research, curriculum and publications on intense international interest in global sejahtera that had never been attempted, either at our universities or elsewhere.

We had in the past designed and delivered a highly effective free-standing global sejahtera initiative module for the BBA, MBA and EDP programs at the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM), University Tun Razak (UniRazak), Asian Institute of Management promote a true integration of values-based decision making throughout the curriculum & learning. We have examined every other aspect of our teaching experience, as well as the acculturation process, extracurricular business collaboration, case research and project community service activities - to determine what signals we had and should send to all our students.

Yazdi said, “Where our knowledge has proved to be incomplete, our students have undertaken the extremely difficult process of coining new intellectual capital. Where our tools have proved to be inadequate, they have helped invent new ones. In addition & in part to counter the charge that we must practice what we preach, the practical learning process.”

I remember one of the leaders of our MBA programs, Hani J Elbouzedi from Tripoli, Libya said, “Through all of these learning about global sejahtera, I believe most students have held up a new mirror of themselves and to our communities. All of these things taken as a whole are truly changing an important dimension of learning and development process.”

This international fact-finding in UK & EU by Yazdi is a piece of that composite mirror. We need to know more than we ever known about values, priorities, hopes & receptiveness of the future global sejahtera. I realise change, especially planned change, is never easy. Experience has taught me that we should take note when it is done with care and grace.
