LAHAD DATU: Warisan candidate Datuk Mohd Yusof Apdal said being the party President’s brother is not the reason he is Lahad Datu parliamentary candidate.
Yusof said Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal insisted that family ties are put behind and the struggle of the people becomes the party’s priority.
He said his selection as a candidate was after the leadership saw such need in the constituency.
“The leadership may see me as a candidate who is familiar and knows the community since I have served as Lahad Datu Assemblyman and served the community from Tambisan to Kunak,” he said when met after a “Meeting with Leaders” session at Dataran Reno Fajar, which was officiated by Shafie.
According to Yusof, sibling relationship was not a privilege and in the last Sabah State Election (PRN), he was not selected as a candidate.
However, he was involved in the campaign as a driving force that brought victory to candidates from Warisan in the 2020 PRN.
His selection as a candidate also took into account the fact that the Warisan representative could serve the voters and the people in the entire parliamentary constituency of Lahad Datu well.
On his campaign strategy, Yusof said he would explain the real struggle and the direction the party was taking.
