The coveted main prizes at the 79th Cannes International Film Festival are to be awarded on Saturday from 8:15 pm (1815 GMT), with 22 entries competing for the Palme d’Or and other trophies.
Besides the Palme d'Or for the best film, honours will be conferred for the Best Director, Best Actress and Best Actor, as well as the Grand Prix - considered the second-highest award - at the close of the annual film event on the French Riviera.
The prizes will be awarded by an international jury chaired by South Korean director Park Chan-wook. The jury also includes actress Demi Moore and actor Stellan Skarsgård, while the ceremony will be hosted by the French-Malian actress Eye Haïdara.
At the closing gala, Barbra Streisand is to be feted with an honorary Palme d'Or, but will be unable to accept the award in person due to a knee injury.
In 2025, the film “It Was Just an Accident” by Iranian director Jafar Panahi was crowned the winner of the Palme d'Or.
