Cannot deny importance of Chinese: Ellron

KENINGAU: The Chinese community made significant contributions and played a major role in the development of the country since the early formation of Malaysia.

Sabah Youth and Sports Minister, Datuk Ellron Angin, said the Chinese community in Malaysia, especially in Sabah, does not need further recognition for their contributions and role.

“They have made tremendous contributions, in Malaysia alone, the Chinese community contributed to numerous successes.

In this regard, Ellron, who is also Sook Assemblyman, called on other ethnic groups, particularly the Kadazandusun, Murut and Rungus (KDMR) to emulate and follow the dedication and hard work of the Chinese community, especially in managing their businesses to achieve success.

Advertisement“Reflecting on the past, the arrival of the Chinese community in this country, especially in Sabah, was not easy. They had to endure difficult times to continue their lives after leaving mainland China,” he said.

However, Ellron pointed out that through their perseverance in various fields such as agriculture and business, which started on a small scale, they eventually dominated economic activities.

AdvertisementAt the same time, Ellron also emphasised the importance of celebrating this and other festivals together to better understand and foster a stronger spirit of unity, which will create a harmonious and close-knit environment among the multi-ethnic society.

The event, attended by approximately 200 villagers from various ethnicities and religions, was held at the residence of Mr. Peter Chen and was enlivened with various performances and Chinese cultural dances.

Also present were the Sook Assistant District Officer, Puan Caroline Benjamin Jiungan, Sook Police Station Chief, SM Sius @ Albasius Sutin, leaders of various components of GRS Sook, and local community leaders.
