For about eight months, I edited every video on my phone using CapCut. It was free, it was fast, and it got me from zero subscribers to my first thousand. The problem started when I wanted to do more than vertical TikTok clips.
I tried recording my screen for a tutorial. CapCut doesn’t really do that. I tried cleaning up older footage I’d shot before I owned a proper camera. Same answer. CapCut is owned by TikTok’s parent company and it’s built around exactly that — short-form vertical video. It’s great at it. It just wasn’t built for the next step.

I started Premiere Pro’s 7-day trial and gave up halfway through. DaVinci confused me before I finished the install. I wanted something in between — a tool that didn’t treat me like a broadcast engineer but also wasn’t built around one social platform.
Then a friend who runs a small YouTube channel pointed me toward GOM Easy Pass.

If you’ve used Windows in the last decade, you’ve probably seen GOM Player — the company behind it has been making media software for over two decades. A while back they bundled all of their creator tools into a single subscription. It costs $2.99 a month.
Here’s what’s actually inside, and what I use each of them for:
GOM Cam — screen recorder
Full screen, a window, or a custom region. Webcam overlay if you want to talk over your edit. No watermark, no time limit. I use it for tutorials and gameplay clips.
GOM Mix Pro — video editor
The interface looks like a stripped-down Premiere — timeline, layers, transitions — but the menus are limited to what beginners actually use. Around 2,000 effects come built in. The AI scene-cut tool alone saves me hours per video.
GOM Player+ — player with AI upscaling
This one surprised me. It plays anything, but the headline feature is AI upscaling up to 4K. Old phone footage that looked muddy on my channel now actually holds up at full resolution.
Bundled with those are a basic image editor (GOM Pic) and a voice recorder, which I use less often but are handy for thumbnails and voiceovers.
The honest pitch: if you’re already paying for Premiere, this isn’t going to replace it. If TikTok is the only platform you post to, CapCut probably still has you covered. But if you’re trying to do more — YouTube tutorials, longer cuts, screen recordings, polishing up footage you already have — three dollars a month gets you out of that gap.

Side note: until June 30, 2026, there’s also a one-time lifetime license for $69. For context, that’s a dollar less than a single month of Adobe Creative Cloud Pro — and you only pay it once. Worth a look if monthly subscriptions aren’t your thing.
You can https://invl.app/clni648?aff_sub1={click}&aff_sub2={campaign}&aff_sub3={source}’s site and cancel from your account page without an email back-and-forth. I’ve been on it a few months now and haven’t bothered switching.
