Former “Pinoy Big Brother: Celebrity Collab Edition 2.0” housemates Caprice Cayetano, Heath Jornales, Marco Masa and Clifford Arceo are bringing their real-life friendship to the small screen as they headline GMA Afternoon Prime’s upcoming youth-oriented drama “You’re My Favorite Song.”
Set to premiere June 22, the series that explores family, friendship, dreams and first love stars Cayetano as Angel Dimaculangan, a 16-year-old genius who relocates to Solmera City to help her grandfather fulfill his dream of building a beach resort. Her plans, however, are threatened when a powerful corporation targets their family property.
“Angel is a genius when it comes to science, but she’s also very friendly and family-oriented. I relate to her love for family and the way she fights for her dreams and the dreams of the people she loves,” Cayetano said during a media conference.
The actress said she was thrilled to finally take on a youthful and lighthearted role.
“I know Gen Z and Gen Alpha viewers will be able to relate to it. It’s a heartwarming story about friends, family and dreams,” she said.
Jornales, who plays Miguel Miraflor, portrays a young musician struggling under the expectations of a controlling father.
“I relate to Miguel because of his love and passion for music. One of his biggest conflicts is that his father doesn’t give him much freedom,” Jornales said.
“I’m very happy because this is the first series where I’m one of the main cast members. Viewers shouldn’t miss it because of the romantic moments that will surely make them smile,” he added.
Masa takes on the role of Zion, a shy and awkward student who learns to stand up for himself despite being bullied.
“I’m so excited because after leaving the PBB house, this is my first continuous television series, and I’m doing it with the same people I shared that experience with,” he added.
Meanwhile, Arceo portrays Calyx, the school’s top student.
“Calyx is the smartest student in school until Angel arrives and becomes his academic rival. At the same time, he’s dealing with pressure from his family because everyone around him is exceptionally intelligen. One thing I share with Calyx is that we both want to do our best for our families. Just like him, I want to make my parents proud,” he said.
The cast members said their close friendship off-camera has helped create natural chemistry onscreen.
“The chemistry between us is very natural because of the bond we built. As long as we’re genuine with one another, people will see and feel that authenticity,” Arceo noted.
Masa echoed the sentiment, saying that the rivalry viewers will see onscreen is purely fictional.
“In real life, we’re all very close friends. The bond people saw inside the PBB house is exactly the same bond we have on and off camera. There are no rivalries in real life. We’re all rooting for one another,” he said.
Beyond romance and entertainment, the cast hopes the series will resonate with young viewers facing real-life challenges.
“I hope we can connect not only with Gen Z viewers but also with their parents. I want families to better understand what young people are going through today and to see that challenges can be overcome,” Jornales said.
“We want to use this platform not just to entertain but to become a positive example for our generation and future generations. We want to show viewers that they can overcome hardships and always look at the brighter side of life,” Masa mentioned.
“This show is not only about romance and happiness. It also explores friendship, family struggles and how people can help one another overcome difficult situations. We hope to inspire viewers to
become stronger and better individuals,” Arceo noted.
Produced by GMA Public Affairs and directed by JP Habac, “You’re My Favorite Song” also stars veteran actors Boboy Garrovillo, Katya Santos, James Blanco, Kazel Kinouchi and Wilma Doesnt.
Completing the cast are promising young talents, Sparkle artists Waynona Collings, Princess Aliyah, Lee Victor, Kairo Lazarte, Andrei Fajardo, and Geo Mhanna.
The series premieres June 22 and airs weekdays at 4 p.m. on GMA Afternoon Prime.
