An 80-year-old man sustained critical injuries in a car fire that engulfed his vehicle in Taman Bukit Serdang, Seri Kembangan. The victim, whose Perodua Kancil was almost completely destroyed in the blaze, suffered burns covering more than 90 percent of his body. The tragic incident occurred today around 2:39 p.m., according to Selangor Fire and Rescue Department Assistant Director (Operations) Ahmad Mukhlis Mukhtar.
The fire broke out along Jalan BS 9, drawing the attention of nearby passersby who managed to pull the elderly man from the burning vehicle before emergency services arrived. A team of eight firefighters, led by Senior Fire Officer II Muhammad A. Kadir, was dispatched from the Seri Kembangan fire station. They responded with a fire rescue tender, a light rescue vehicle, and an emergency medical rescue services unit.
Despite the public’s quick action to rescue the man, the car was already 90 percent consumed by flames when the firefighters arrived. Mukhlis confirmed that the victim was immediately handed over to the Health Ministry’s medical personnel, who provided urgent treatment before transferring him to a hospital. The severity of his burns places him in critical condition, and medical professionals are monitoring him closely as he receives further treatment.
Investigations into the cause of the fire are currently ongoing. Mukhlis indicated that while there was no evidence of flammable materials inside the vehicle, authorities are conducting a thorough probe to determine how the fire started.
This incident has shocked the local community, with many praising the courage of those who intervened. However, the man’s critical condition has raised concerns about safety measures for elderly drivers and the need for public awareness regarding fire hazards in vehicles. Authorities are urging people to conduct regular checks on their vehicles and stay alert for potential fire risks.
As the investigation continues, the authorities hope to shed light on the factors that led to this unfortunate event, with safety officials urging the public to remain vigilant about car maintenance and fire risks.
