A 37-year-old caretaker was killed and two school officials were injured in a second violent school attack in Poland within two days.
WARSAW: A caretaker has been killed and two others injured in another attack at a school in Poland, with a 15-year-old suspect overpowered by police, Interior Minister Marcin Kierwinski said on Thursday, reported German Press Agency (dpa).
The suspect is a former student of the school, Kierwinski said.
The incident took place in the village of Leszczydol-Nowiny, around 70 kilometres (km) north-east of Warsaw.
The suspect entered the school in the morning and attacked the caretaker and a teacher, a spokeswoman for the local police told the online news platform Onet.
The school’s headteacher heard the noise and came out of his office to confront the attacker, the spokeswoman said. He was also injured.
Rescue workers attempted to resuscitate the 37-year-old caretaker at the scene, but she died of her injuries.
The incident was the second school attack in Poland in two days.
On Wednesday, nine people were injured – two of them seriously – in a knife attack at a vocational school in Ostroleka, around 100 km north of Warsaw.
The alleged perpetrator, a 19-year-old man, was detained.
Prime Minister Donald Tusk called an urgent meeting with the interior minister and the heads of the police and intelligence services.
