A cargo ship has been struck off the coast of Qatar in what is suspected to be an Iranian attack.
An "unknown projectile" struck the bulk carrier, UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) said on Sunday.
This caused a "small fire" on board, which has since been extinguished. There were no casualties.
Qatar’s Ministry of Defence confirmed details of what appears to be the same incident. A merchant ship travelling from Abu Dhabi was attacked by a drone, it said, causing a fire to break out on board.
The fire is under control and the ship has continued its journey to a port near the Qatari capital, Doha.
The vital shipping route through the Strait of Hormuz has been blocked by Iran for weeks in the wake of the war launched against it by the US and Israel.
The consequences for the global economy are significant. For its part, the US has imposed a blockade on Iranian ports.
