PENAMPANG: Carlye Lajimin has been elected the new Upko Youth Chief after winning the polls at the Upko Youth Triennial General Meeting here, taking over from Felix Joseph Saang to lead the party’s youth wing for 2026 to 2029.
“The differences throughout the election process must not become a wall that divides us. Instead, let it be an experience that matures us and strengthens our struggle further,” said Carlye, who previously served as Upko Central Youth Deputy Chief, in his closing speech at the meeting.
He said Upko Youth needed to reunite after the election process and move as one team to ensure the party’s struggle continued to hold a place in the hearts of Sabahans.
Among the main items on his agenda, Carlye said, was realising the “One Division, One Industry” concept, with every Upko Youth division having at least one economic or industry initiative based on the strengths and potential of its respective area.
He said Upko Youth needed to be not only a political force but also an economic driver for the community.
“We want to produce more young entrepreneurs, open up opportunities for young people to generate income and build business networks between divisions.
“Most importantly, we want to ensure Upko Youth has a clear economic agenda that can benefit the grassroots,” he said.
Carlye said Upko Youth needed to evolve alongside changes in the political, economic and technological landscape, as well as the growing needs of young people.
He said the youth wing needed to be more progressive and willing to try new approaches, in addition to engaging young voters to understand their concerns, anxieties and aspirations.
Carlye called on the entire leadership line-up, division youth chiefs, delegates and Upko Youth members to work together to carry out the new leadership agenda.
“Starting tomorrow, our work begins. We will return to our respective divisions to reach the grassroots, help the people and build the economy for young people.
“We are ready to shoulder this responsibility because real politics is service to the people,” he said.
Newbaxter Tibin was elected Upko Central Youth Deputy Chief.
