Vespa gives its brand and heritage a home in Penang.

Vespa Malaysia has officially unveiled its latest tribute to Italian craftsmanship, the Vespa Officina 8, amidst the heritage-rich backdrop of Penang. The launch coincides with the debut of Casa della Vespa, a new immersive brand space in George Town designed to celebrate the scooter’s iconic history.

Introduced by Didi Group on 19 December 2025, the limited-edition Officina 8 series pays homage to the legendary “Experimental Department” of the Piaggio plant in Pontedera—the very workshop where the Vespa legend began in the late 1940s.

The “Officina 8” Story: Where Legends Were Built

The new collection draws inspiration from Officina 8 (Workshop 8), the most secretive and prestigious department of the Piaggio factory. It was here, in the post-war years of rebirth, that master metalworkers, engineers, and test riders created the earliest prototypes, including the record-breaking “98 Corsa” and the “Six Days” racers.

The new models evoke the atmosphere of this industrial workshop, capturing the essence of the machinery, vices, and workwear of that golden era.

Models and Aesthetics: Industrial Blue & Brass

The Officina 8 trim is available on two distinct models:

  • Vespa Sprint 150cc: Representing the brand’s youthful, carefree spirit.
  • Vespa GTV 300: The authentically sporty model with its signature low headlight and exposed handlebars.

Both models are finished in an exclusive Blu Officina 8, a matte metallic shade of industrial blue. This is contrasted by sophisticated satin-finish metal accents on the shield profile and light surrounds.

A key signature of this edition is the use of brass, a material historically linked to the workshop. It appears on the steering cover grille, wheel rims, and specifically in the brass and blue resin pin on the back plate—a modern reinterpretation of the badge worn by the original Experimental Department technicians.

Premium Details and Apparel

Attention to detail extends to the saddle, which features dual upholstery with horizontal heat-sealed stitching, contrasting double stitching, and polished brass rivets.
