KUALA LUMPUR – Police have arrested a local man over the discovery of tens of cat skeletons and carcasses in a rented condominium unit in Cheras.
Cheras police chief Zam Halim Jamaluddin said the suspect, 31, was a tenant of the unit at Kondominium Bayu Tasik, Bandar Sri Permaisuri.
He was arrested last night, Zam Halim said, according to Bernama.
“Police are still investigating and the suspect has been remanded for three days starting today,” he told the newswire.
Previously, Cheras police said they received a report on the discovery on March 13 and began an investigation under Section 428 of the Penal Code.
The gruesome find came to light after neighbours at the condominium complained about a foul stench emanating from the unit.
Neighbours had described the suspect as an “animal lover” who kept cats as pets, and had noted how the number of stray cats around the condominium had decreased of late.
The Malaysia Animal Association, which had posted about the issue on its Facebook, has urged the Veterinary Services Department to thoroughly probe into the matter. – The Vibes, March 26, 2023
