The Princess of Wales visited Evelina London Children's Hospital this afternoon in her capacity as Patron of the institution.

Catherine was there to explore the hospital's ambitious plans to transform into the capital's most comprehensive and integrated facility for young patients.

Evelina London is driven by the principle that all children deserve exceptional healthcare.

The hospital is currently expanding its services to address growing demand to help more young people achieve better health outcomes.

Construction plans are progressing for an additional hospital building adjacent to the current site, with doors expected to open during the early 2030s.

A central element of this expansion involves collaboration between Evelina London, The Royal Marsden and St George's Hospital.

The three institutions are working together to relocate specialist cancer services and blood and marrow transplant care for children across south London and the southeast of England.

These services will move into a new Children's Cancer Principal Treatment Centre, which will be housed within Evelina London's forthcoming building.

This consolidation means young cancer patients will have access to multiple specialist services under one roof, including intensive care facilities and essential cancer surgery.

The princess met with families and patients who are contributing to the planning process, helping to shape innovative care approaches and family-centred facilities.

Catherine also toured two wards that exemplify the hospital's growth strategy.

Edward ward is a newly established children's cardiac unit that has consolidated the hospital's world-renowned heart, lung and intensive care specialists at a single location.

The princess additionally visited Galaxy ward, which opened its doors in May as a fresh outpatients facility within the Children's Day Treatment Centre.

This unit provides face-to-face cardiac clinic appointments for young patients, offering diagnostic procedures such as echocardiograms alongside assessments and continuing care for children and adolescents living with heart conditions.

Catherine's visit comes amid reports that Prince Harry is expected to travel to London later today ahead of a series of charity engagements.

It was originally claimed that the Duke of Sussex had accepted an offer to stay at Buckingham Palace during his visit to the UK.

However, Buckingham Palace aides have denied that the Duke of Sussex will be staying in the official London residence.

The Duke of Sussex is due in Birmingham for the Invictus Games' One Year To Go ceremony, and it is believed he is very keen to take the children to visit his mother's grave in Northamptonshire.
