
Kota Kinabalu: The court fixed Oct 25 this year to monitor the filing of the written submissions on a case of a 32-year-old man charged with causing grievous hurt to another man.
Sessions Court Judge Noor Hafizah Mohd Salim also set Oct 21 for both prosecution and defence to file their written submissions on the case of Reezid Kasmin.
The date of decision on the case would be fixed on Oct 25.
Reezid is accused of assaulting Mohd Bovi Wong, 26, by using a knife and a sword at 11pm on Jan 6, 2020 in front of the Kedai Mike Café in Tuaran.
He allegedly committed the offence together with another accused Abdul Razif Juani who admitted to the charge and was sentenced accordingly, and also together with an accomplice still at large.
The offence under Section 326/34 of the Penal Code carries a jail term of up to 20 years, and whipping, and liability to a fine, on conviction.
The prosecution had called 15 witnesses in the hearing.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Nur Faezah Jafry conducted the prosecution while counsel Erveana Ansari Ali defended Reezid.
In another case, a man was jailed five years and also ordered to given a stroke of the cane for taking syabu repeatedly.
Rusmin Abd Amin admitted to the charge against him. He was arrested on Aug 9 this year after his urine was tested at the police station here.
Rusmin has several conviction records for taking drugs.
After completing his jail sentence, Rusmin was ordered placed under National Anti-Drug Agency supervision for two years.
Meanwhile, an illegal immigrant was sentenced to four months’ jail for entering the State without any document.
Syed Anuar pleaded guilty to entering the State illegally where he was arrested on Aug 10 this year at the city area after failing to produce identification document to the police.
He was ordered referred to the Immigration Department for his biometric data to be taken before deportation, after serving his jail sentence.
