Kota Kinabalu: A 30-year-old chief accountant was charged with committing Criminal Breach of Trust involving a sum of RM277,405.25.

Bernabas Aki Justus pleaded not guilty before Sessions Court Judge Noor Hafizah Mohd Salim Thursday.

He is accused of breaching the trust given to him as Chief accountant of Syarikat Bewonder Holdings Sdn Bhd which entrusted him with the money belonging to the company.

The alleged incident took place between Dec 4, 2023 and March 14, this year at the company premises, here.

The court set Sept 3 for pre-trial case management and released Bernabas on of RM10,000 bail in two local sureties.

The court also ordered Bernabas’ passport, if any, to be impounded by the court pending the disposal of his case.

Bernabas was also reminded to not tamper with the prosecution’s witnesses.

Earlier, Deputy Public Prosecutor Atiqa Nazihah Azmi offered bail of RM15,000 with several conditions to be imposed on Bernabas.

However, counsel Amirul Amin, asked for the bail amount to be reduced.

Amirul told the court that Bernabas was not a flight risk as he had cooperated with the police during investigation and his family is residing here.
