CCTV exposes benefit cheat working out at gym after telling DWP she ‘can’t walk’

  • Helen Green, 49, was sentenced to seven months in prison for dishonestly claiming over £25,000 in Personal Independence Payment (PIP).
  • She falsely claimed to be housebound and reliant on crutches due to severe rheumatoid arthritis and a slipped disk between January 2020 and March 2023.
  • The Department of Work and Pensions (DWP) investigation, initiated after a tip-off, revealed Green was actively working out at a gym.
  • Further evidence showed Green, from Shrewsbury, was also an active member of a running club, contradicting her claims of being unable to walk.
  • Green pleaded guilty to dishonestly failing to notify the DWP of a change in circumstances, with the amended amount of fraudulent claims totalling £25,244.
