CelcomDigi has rolled out another leg of its MY5G SME Digital Workshop, this time in Northern Malaysia, continuing a program now in its 4th year that has supported more than 3,000 local entrepreneurs to date.
The workshop is built around giving SMEs practical digital skills and access to tools relevant to growing in the digital economy, with new formats introduced this year to better match businesses at different stages. Early-stage businesses get modules focused on building a solid digital presence, while more established enterprises are shown technology solutions that fit into their existing daily operations.
Beyond the workshop sessions, the programme also included market visits to locations like Pasar Awam Bagan Ajam and Pasar Awam Sri Muda in Penang, part of the Skuad 5G Edisi SME initiative, which involved direct engagement with more than 110 business owners to better understand their needs and challenges.
The program runs across 14 locations nationwide, and the Northern leg kicked off this week with more than 300 SMEs taking part. Alongside CelcomDigi, the workshop brings together a wide range of partners, including Funding Societies Malaysia, Swipey, CTOS Data Systems, CardUp, Majlis Amanah Rakyat, SME Bank, Bank Pembangunan Malaysia, SME Corporation Malaysia, SAMENTA, Digital Penang, Onsmo Lighting Malaysia, and TikTok Shop Malaysia.
Feedback from participants has been positive. Puan Noor Shamsiah bt Mohd Farouk Marican and her husband Encik Mohd Hasnizam bin Abu Bakar, owners of Dapur Bakar Ayam Goreng Kunyit, said they had struggled to reach new customers online without knowing where to start, and that the workshop gave them ideas they could apply right away, particularly around content and social commerce, helping them see digital tools as a solution to a real business problem rather than just another piece of technology to adopt.
The couple attended last year’s workshop in Penang, where they started their business with a small three-wheel cart before growing to 13 outlets nationwide, and they’re now customers of CelcomDigi’s Business Postpaid and Fibre solutions.
