Scam calls are annoying enough when you can spot them, but the sneaky ones are the real problem. Well, CelcomDigi just gave its networ an upgrade to deal with that, rolling out a voice firewall that flags suspicious calls before you even answer, adding a fresh layer of protection for its more than 20 million customers across Malaysia.
The brand’s core network now looks at cell activity with a much clearer view, and it analyzes traffic patterns and risk signals with a lot of precision, catching malicious or fraudulent activity before it ever reaches your phone. Think of it as a companion to the SMS firewall the company already runs, which filters out shady text messages at the network level.
During testing, the system flagged 355 million malicious and suspicious call attempts, and 217 million of those were robocalls alone. Since the technology went live nationwide in July, customers now see a “Suspected Scam” alert pop up on their phones when a sketchy call comes in, giving them the heads up they need to decide whether to pick up.
This voice firewall fits into CelcomDigi’s bigger scam-fighting playbook, which the company calls A.C.T., building public awareness, keeping internal compliance tight while backing up enforcement agencies, and leaning on technology to get ahead of cybercriminals. It’s all part of the company’s ongoing push through its S.A.F.E. Internet programme and other awareness campaigns to help Malaysians feel a little more secure navigating everything online.
