In an effort to make one-tap verifications smarter and safer, CelcomDigi is working with Google under their Firebase and Telenor Linx departments to bring network-based phone number verification to developers, using telco-grade network intelligence delivered through APIs.
By moving away from SMS-based OTPs and toward API-led verification, authentication is now anchored through cloud-native scalability to reduce friction for users while also cutting down risks tied to phishing, OTP interception, SIM-based attacks, and artificial traffic.
From CelcomDigi’s perspective, this collaboration is also about building digital trust at a broader ecosystem level. Making these capabilities available through an API-as-a-Service model allows enterprises and developers to plug secure, network-based verification directly into their platforms without adding complexity.
As such, businesses can speed up onboarding, lower operational costs tied to SMS OTPs, and improve conversion rates, all while strengthening security. And for users signing up to banking, e-commerce, or ride-hailing apps, the experience becomes a secure one-tap process, with verification handled through a trusted connection between the app and the mobile network rather than via SMS.
This move also builds on CelcomDigi’s wider push to grow its API ecosystem. Through partnerships with players like Aduna, Bridge Alliance, and PayNet, the telco is working with regional and global partners to enable interoperable telco APIs that support digital onboarding, fraud mitigation, and even cross-border digital services.
