I refer to the opinion piece by PAS president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang where he has implied that all non-Muslims should be grateful for ‘being given a place’ here and should just let Malays continue leading the country.
It is my opinion that the PAS president is too busy engaging in political rhetoric that he has forgotten how our country has developed since independence. Perhaps, a short recap of history will bring him to a right state of mind.
Malaysia, known for its rich cultural heritage and diversity, is a nation that embraces people from various ethnicities and backgrounds. Non-Malays form an integral part of the country's fabric, contributing significantly to its progress and prosperity. In this article, we delve into why non-Malays undeniably deserve to live in Malaysia.
Unity in Diversity
Malaysia's strength lies in its multiculturalism, where different communities coexist harmoniously. Non-Malays bring a unique perspective, enriching the social and cultural tapestry of the nation. Their diverse traditions, languages, and customs contribute to the vibrant mosaic that defines Malaysia.
Contributions to Economic Growth
Non-Malay citizens have played a pivotal role in propelling Malaysia's economic growth. They have established successful businesses, invested in various industries, and contributed to job creation. Their entrepreneurial spirit and expertise have attracted international investments, fostering a dynamic and competitive economy.
Educational and Professional Excellence
Non-Malay Malaysians have excelled in various fields, including academia, research, technology, arts, and sports. Their achievements have brought international recognition to Malaysia and inspired future generations. By providing equal opportunities for education and professional growth, Malaysia harnesses the collective potential of its diverse population.
Preserving National Unity
Inclusive policies and equal rights for all citizens, regardless of their ethnicity, are essential in maintaining social cohesion. By embracing non-Malays, Malaysia showcases its commitment to unity and equality, setting an example for other nations facing similar challenges. Living together, celebrating diversity, and fostering understanding can further strengthen national unity.
Malaysia's true essence lies in its inclusivity and diversity. Non-Malay citizens have proven time and again that they are an integral part of the country's progress and prosperity. By providing equal opportunities, embracing diversity, and celebrating cultural pluralism, Malaysia thrives as a nation.
It is my personal advice to Tan Sri Hadi that the contributions of non-Malays and work towards building an inclusive society should be recognised. This will enable us to build a multi-racial country, beeming with diversity where every citizen can flourish, irrespective of their background or ethnicity.
