Celebrations reportedly erupted across Iran and in other parts of the world after Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei was killed in a U.S.–Israeli strike.

Donald Trump announced on social media that Iran’s leader had died in the attacks on Saturday, 28 February.

Iranian state media later confirmed the death and declared a 40-day mourning period.

Footage circulating online appears to show crowds gathering in Iranian cities, with some people dancing and cheering following the announcement.
