Celebrity Traitors final live: BBC issues statement on James Acaster after massive twist as tonight’s finale looms

We were told the Celebrity Traitors semi-final would feature “a sensational turn of events” and Thursday (29 October) night’s episode certainly delivered.

While it seemed Richard E Grant’s slip-up would surely go down as the most obvious reveal in Traitors history, James Acaster eclipsed his co-star by confessing his murderous ways at the roundtable.

The comedian, who never wanted to be a Traitor, finally found his name being mentioned. And rather than crafting an elaborate defence, Acaster decided to simply come clean and tell his fellow players to vote him out.

The big question is, what will the decision mean for his fellow Traitors? Maya Jama is a prime suspect right now – and almost gave her own game away with a huge mistake at breakfast.

Can the Love Island host and Kenny keep their cool and encourage the remaining Faithfuls to turn on each other? With the grand final finally upon us tonight, it’s all to play for...

The Celebrity Traitors concludes tonight at 8pm on BBC One. Follow all the latest updates below.

Did James Acaster break the rules of the game with shock revelation

15:27 , Isobel Lewis

Since James Acaster did something completely unprecedented (well, if Richard E Grant hadn’t done it weeks before) and revealed that he was a Traitor, there’s been a lot of discussion around whether this is allowed under the rules of the game.

When the original Traitors, Richard and Maya Jama, were recruited, they were made to say the Traitors’ oath.

Part of the oath asks the Traitors to “vow to keep your identity and the identity of your fellow Traitors a secret” – something Richard failed to do almost immediately.

Acaster being recruited (BBC)

While the recruited Traitors are not shown making their own oaths, it’s fair to assume that the players will know the rules going in, and that Acaster did break this rule.

In the past, many players have broken the second part of this pledge when turning on each another in an act of Traitor-on-Traitor.

With so many plates being spun – and, in James’ case, the player clearly feeling a lot of pressure – mistakes are going to happen that mess with the show’s rules.

What the show‘s producers do is react and respond to these issues in real time, letting things play out while ensuring the show is still as good as it can be.

Joe Lycett shares hilarious contents of his Celebrity Traitors journal

14:57 , Isobel Lewis

We missed Joe Lycett on our screens from the moment he was banished, and the comedian is thankfully now supplying us with some incredible Celebrity Traitors content.

On Instagram, he’s revealing what’s inside the Bible-print journal that he kept while appearing on the show.

Safe to say, it’s quite a watch...

How Celebrity Traitors' James Acaster became an unexpected heartthrob

14:27 , Isobel Lewis

His exit from the show might have been dramatic and divisive, but James Acaster leaves The Celebrity Traitors with a legion of new fans, and a surprising (at least to him) heartthrob status.

How did we get here? I’ve got some theories, at the link below...

Romesh editing blunder reveals roundtable wasn't quite as it seems

13:57 , Isobel Lewis

Editing mistakes happen, but we know The Celebrity Traitors are kicking themselves after people spotted this one from last night’s show.

After James Acaster tells the players that he is a Traitor, a number of the Faithful are all shown looking shocked.

But from this cropping slip-up, it’s clear that Romesh Ranganathan’s gasp was actually filmed after the players had voted, as his chalkboard and the top of the letter J are visible.

See! (BBC)

Maya might be a Traitor, but Bash is still celebrating

13:27 , Isobel Lewis

Until now, Bash (real name Sebastian Croft) has failed to consider Maya Jama as a Traitor, blinded by her impeccable fits and shiny, shiny hair.

But while things are finally starting to click into place for the Heartstopper star on the show, Bash has revealed that his friendship with the presenter has paid off in the real world.

Appearing on Radio 1, the actor and musician revealed that he’d “kind of made it” as he’d been invited to Maya’s legendary Halloween party.

And it sounds like he could even pay tribute to his time on the show, as Bash admitted that he has “been known to put a Claudia Winkleman wig on every now and again”. Go on Bash, we dare you!

BBC breaks silence on reports filming was paused over James Acaster

13:06 , Isobel Lewis

The BBC has addressed reports that producers were forced to stop filming of last night’s episode after James Acaster became distressed during filming.

Weeks ago, The Sun reported that producers gave Acaster a welfare check before the roundtable, and then intervened after he became upset.

Joanne reveals what happens AFTER players are banished

12:27 , Isobel Lewis

I, for one, can never hear enough behind-the-scenes goss from the Traitors castle, and Joanne McNally has now blessed us with some major secrets.

Appearing on her podcast My Therapist Ghosted Me after her tragic exit from the show, the comedian revealed what goes down when players are banished at the round table.

“You get off the podium, they rush you out the side door, you’re bailed into a van,” Joanne told co-host Vogue Williams, explaining that players have an “emergency backpack” of essentials with them in the castle at all times, should they be voted out.

She then revealed that the entire next day is spent filming exit interviews (like the one on podcast Uncloaked) and the widely memed B-roll footage of the players in their rooms that is shown when their names are considered in the turret.

Joanne explained that this is a “full day’s work to do in the castle”, which means that the eliminated contestants are never far away from the remaining Traitors and Faithful.

“If you need to go to the bathroom, it’s this big production because they have to make sure the castle’s clear... so that no one crossed paths,” she said. “It’s such a huge production, and they run it like military.”

Maya reacts to her huge breakfast mistake

11:57 , Isobel Lewis

While I’m still not over Maya Jama slipping up at breakfast and cheering to “killing” her fellow players before correcting herself and saying: “Banishing them, even,” the Love Island host clearly finds the whole thing hilarious too.

Commenting on an Instagram clip of the moment, Maya commented: “Running on minimal sleep for 3 weeks started hitting [crying emoji] the Traitor leaked out.”

And while all eyes are on Maya now, she appeared to actually get away with this moment!

Joanne walks off Uncloaked set after learning Traitors' identities

11:27 , Isobel Lewis

Having been consistently wrong about just about everything in the game (and making The Celebrity Traitors all the funnier for it), Joanne McNally’s reaction to learning who the Traitors are was always going to be hilarious.

Having told host Ed Gamble that she believed King Kenny and Maya Jama (“No, she’s as pure as the driven snow”) were Faithful and not naming James Acaster as a potential Traitor, the Irish comic’s reaction to reading each name was typically outsized.

Reading Kenny’s name, McNally repeatedly screamed as she realised that the Faithful had given him the dagger.

“Has he had training? Did he go to RADA or some s***? How the hell has he pulled that off?” she asked.

James’ name was met with similar shock, with Joanne standing up in shock and snatching the piece of paper out of Ed’s hand.

And as for her reaction to Maya’s name? Well, you can see for yourself below...

Did Maya give herself away in awkward final chat with Michael?

10:13 , Isobel Lewis

I think we can all agree that Maya Jama and Michael Sheen’s firepit chat (or lack thereof) was pretty excruciating TV, especially with Michael now convinced Maya is a Traitor.

But did Maya drop even more clues in that moment? Let’s examine the scene.

After all the players went to bed one by one, only Traitors Maya and King Kenny, and Faithful Michael remained.

Tense or what... (BBC)

When Kenny left, Maya told him: “See you later.” An innocuous comment, or a sign that the pair would be meeting later that night?

Things then got mega awkward between Michael and Maya, with the pair clearly uncomfortable in each other’s presence.

As she left, Maya giggled as she told Michael she’d “see him on the other side”. Another tell for the Faithful to pick up on? Given how many they missed this episode, you can never know...

Sharon says Celebrity Traitors was 'more intense' than she imagined

09:27 , Isobel Lewis

Poor Sharon Rooney! You nearly get banished at the roundtable, only to get murdered. Harsh!

Reflecting on her time on the show, the Barbie star told the BBC: “It was more intense, but it's more everything. Everything is heightened in there. It’s everything you hope and expect it's going to be and more.

“You can't describe it. Even just driving up to the castle on the first day is unreal. Each and every single moment is even better than you expect it to be."

Amol Rajan supports James Acaster as critics claim comedian 'robbed' presenter of his place

09:24 , Isobel Lewis

James Acaster’s decision to come clean as a Traitor at Thursday’s roundtable has certainly proven divisive.

While some have praised the comedian for being true to himself and pointed out how much he was clearly struggling being a Traitor, others have shared their frustrations and looked back to the first episode, arguing that Acaster should have let himself be murdered and potential Traitor recruit Amol Rajan be chosen instead.

What could have been, eh? (BBC)

But there’s clearly no hard feelings between the pair, as University Challenge quizmaster Amol has now backed the comic.

On an Instagram compilation of Acaster’s many moments of reluctant treachery, Rajan commented: “A remarkable soul [heart emoji].”

Maya and Kenny poke fun at chaotic semi-final on TikTok

08:44 , Isobel Lewis

Luckily, Maya Jama and King Kenny seem to be seeing to be seeing the funny side on TikTok.

Maya posted a clip of herself lip-syncing along to audio of a man saying: “Woke up this morning in a good mood, told myself it was going to be a great day, and then everything kind of just went to s***!”

The Love Island host wrote that she was “fighting for my life”, with her fellow Traitor Kenny commenting: “Too many slip ups [tonight],” with a cry-laughing emoji.

Kenny has also gone viral with his own TikTok of him and Maya reflecting on what on Earth happened on Thursday night.

Lip-syncing to an audio clip together, Kenny mouths: “And then there were two.”

Maya responds: “I know. Nobody likes us. The two b*****s are left,” with the pair both laughing.

Kenny's slip-up goes unnoticed

08:27 , Isobel Lewis

Anyone else still reeling from last night’s semi-final? Talk about heart-in-your-throat TV!

While Maya Jama’s breakfast slip-up managed to go undetected (maybe it was just shady editing, but how?!), sleuths online think King Kenny also made two slip-ups that went completely unnoticed.

After James Acaster (pre-self-banishment) tried to point the finger at Michael Sheen and James Blunt too, Kenny backed him up by reminding everyone that there are likely three Traitors at the table.

Kenny slips up at the roundtable... or does he? (BBC)

“I think you would either be a great asset to the Traitors, or as a Faithful- as a Traitor myself, I would have got rid of you already,” Kenny told Michael.

Naturally, that screenshot has done the rounds online, with people suggesting that Kenny, too, gave himself away. But the content creator was speaking hypothetically, something Joe Lycett did that eventually led to him being banished.

The only difference with Kenny is that the others didn’t jump on his comment. Maybe the roundtable tension was too high...

Maya's big mistake

08:00 , Rachel McGrath

I cannot believe she got away with this?!

In case you’ve forgotten about it after the roundtable drama, here’s another look at Maya’s breakfast faux pas...

James says 'we've got a proper final on our hands' now

06:00 , Rachel McGrath

Speaking to Ed Gamble on Uncloaked, the comedian pointed out that his decision has really opened the game up.

“Now we’ve got a proper final on our hands,” he said. “With three Traitors, it would have been a foregone conclusion that we were gonna win.

“I went into that roundtable thinking I had no heat on me. It was a surprise. But I was glad they caught me.”

Poor Sharon, eh? She survived the roundtable... only to be murdered a few hours later anyway.

What does James's confession mean for Maya and Kenny?

00:01 , Rachel McGrath

It will be really interesting to see what these two do next.

On Uncloaked, previous winner Leanne pointed out that Maya might as well murder Michael, as he’s coming to come out all guns blazing if she doesn’t. I fear that whatever she does, the writing is on the wall for the Love Island host.

Kenny though... there’s way less suspicion. I hate to say it but Maya going could be the best thing to happen to him. He’d then be able to play the “she kept me in” card...

Thursday 29 October 2026 21:50 , Rachel McGrath

With her banishment now revealed, our clueless queen Joanne has made light of the situation on Instagram.

Iconic as ever... (Joanne McNally/Instagram) Thursday 29 October 2026 21:34 , Rachel McGrath

And that’s a wrap on tonight’s Celebrity Traitors action. I think I need a lay-down.

If, like me, you want to watch James Acaster’s bombshell speech on repeat, then here you go...

Celebrity Traitors’ James Acaster makes unprecedented move at roundtable

Thursday 29 October 2026 21:28 , Rachel McGrath

James A doesn’t think the Traitors can win!

Asked by Ed for his prediction, he names Romesh, Bash and James Blunt as most likely to take home the prizepot.

Thursday 29 October 2026 21:26 , Rachel McGrath

And here’s James’s post-banishment chat.

“Now we’ve got a proper final on our hands,” he says. “With three Traitors, it would have been a foregone conclusion that we were gonna win.

“I went into that roundtable thinking I had no heat on me. It was a surprise. But I was glad they caught me.”

Joanne finds out who the Traitors were

Thursday 29 October 2026 21:23 , Rachel McGrath

They’re now playing the moment when Joanne McNally found out who the Traitors were.

Here are her reactions to each…

Kenny

[screams a lot] “Nooooo! Oh my god, they gave him the dagger as the most honest… I actually… Oh my god. Wow. That is genuinely terrifying.”

James A

[screams and jumps out of her chair] [balls the paper up] “That p***k! No wonder he was trying to get rid of me.”

Maya

[completely loses her mind] [walks off set]

“Oh my god. I am… deceased. I… Honest to God… I actually… I actually cannot believe that. Maya? We were building a life together.”

Thursday 29 October 2026 21:17 , Rachel McGrath

Ooo, Sharon has revealed that she did have big suspicions in the castle, even though some of the scenes didn’t make the cut.

“I did say to Kenny, ‘are you tired, murdering?’,” she says.

Uncloaked panel reacts to James's revelation

Thursday 29 October 2026 21:11 , Rachel McGrath

“I’m shocked by all elements of that [episode],” says Nick Mohammed, who is in the studio.

You and me both, Nick.

“[I’m] so moved by James’s banishment in a way,” he adds.

Civilian series icon Fiona says: “My belly was fliflopping like mad. But I do think that James was very authentic.”

Thursday 29 October 2026 21:08 , Rachel McGrath

Well... what an episode.

Stick with us because I’ll be bringing you all the biggest updates from Uncloaked, where Ed Gamble will be chatting to Sharon and Joanne.

Thursday 29 October 2026 21:05 , Rachel McGrath

What a poetic shot of Jama and Sheen at the end. Man, I love this show.

 (BBC) Thursday 29 October 2026 20:59 , Rachel McGrath

I don’t know if I’ll ever recover from this? And I’m glad to see many people are feeling the same...

Thursday 29 October 2026 20:55 , Rachel McGrath

What on earth!!! That is truly unprecedented... And they are obviously now voting him off.

Wow, wow, wow. What will this mean for Kenny and Maya?

Thursday 29 October 2026 20:54 , Rachel McGrath

Oh my god, James A has outed himself as a Traitor! Before being banished!

They weren’t lying - that really is a bombshell twist! Yes, these are a lot of exclamation marks!!

Thursday 29 October 2026 20:49 , Rachel McGrath

Oh god, now Michael has turned on Maya and James too - are the Faithfuls going to get a Traitor?! And if they do... which one will it be?

Thursday 29 October 2026 20:47 , Rachel McGrath

James B is bang on the money now too! He’s named James A and Maya as people to look at.

This is getting tense!

Thursday 29 October 2026 20:46 , Rachel McGrath

After Maya’s slip-up, Kenny just worded a comment in a really strange way.

“As a Traitor myself...” is a very odd choice of words at the roundtable.

Is the pressure getting to them?!

Thursday 29 October 2026 20:43 , Rachel McGrath

They’ll be kicking themselves, surely!

Thursday 29 October 2026 20:40 , Rachel McGrath

In the words of Joanne McNally, I think this roundtable will be spicy.

Thursday 29 October 2026 20:37 , Rachel McGrath

Bash and Romesh are onto Maya - but going for Michael first! Oh, this will be interesting...

Thursday 29 October 2026 20:34 , Rachel McGrath

I think this might be my favourite challenge yet.

Thursday 29 October 2026 20:32 , Rachel McGrath

The way these heads are being displayed in the cylinders... not exactly flattering.

 (BBC) Thursday 29 October 2026 20:29 , Rachel McGrath

I never needed to hear James Blunt making those noises. Ever.

Thursday 29 October 2026 20:26 , Rachel McGrath

It’s challenge time - and James B has a normal outfit on? Maybe this is the bombshell.

 (BBC) Thursday 29 October 2026 20:23 , Rachel McGrath

They’ve gone back to the murder in plain sight!

If the Faithful chip away at this, they could finally get another Traitor...

Thursday 29 October 2026 20:21 , Rachel McGrath

At long last, the Traitors’ names are starting to be mentioned.

Even though she seemed to get away with that slip-up just now, Maya’s name is being mentioned, as is James A’s.

Thursday 29 October 2026 20:20 , Rachel McGrath

Erm... Maya!

She’s just said “to killing ‘em” during a group cheers... instead of “banishing”. It’s a huge slip-up - that seems to have gone unnoticed? How?!

 (BBC) Thursday 29 October 2026 20:17 , Rachel McGrath

This is either genius or a huge mistake, right? I guess we’ll find out in the next 40 minutes...

Thursday 29 October 2026 20:16 , Rachel McGrath

They’ve done it - they’ve murdered Sharon! Even with all of the heat on her!

Oh, that is an interesting gameplay...

Thursday 29 October 2026 20:16 , Rachel McGrath

We’ve said goodbye to one of our most memeable players.

I miss Joanne already.

Thursday 29 October 2026 20:12 , Rachel McGrath

A quick look at X reveals everyone is on the same page on who should be murdered... apart from the Traitors maybe. Eeek!

 (X) Thursday 29 October 2026 20:10 , Rachel McGrath

And there’s no time to waste as it’s murder o’clock! They’re seriously weighing up whether to go for Sharon, which really would throw the Faithful off...

Thursday 29 October 2026 20:09 , Rachel McGrath

Very interesting for Kenny to change his vote! Historically, doing so never goes down well.

Has he made a huge mistake?!

Thursday 29 October 2026 20:04 , Rachel McGrath

Straight in with the big reveal... It’s Joanne who has been banished!

“I wish I didn’t take this dagger, there’s so much pressure,” Kenny said. “I’m going to vote for... Joanne.”

She looks gutted!

 (BBC) Thursday 29 October 2026 20:01 , Rachel McGrath

Here we go! I’ve mentioned it about 400 times but I am so excited for this...

Half an hour to go!

Thursday 29 October 2026 19:30 , Rachel McGrath

It’s nearly time! And what will the big twist be?

Given how well the Traitors have been doing, the obvious guess is that the trio will hit a huge stumbling block.

Speaking after her exit, Traitor Hannah Fry revealed how Maya and James have accidentally given themselves away. Will some of the Faithful realise?

Here’s what she had to say...

Who could be murdered next?

Thursday 29 October 2026 19:00 , Rachel McGrath

After the banishment, it should be time for the Traitors to carry out another murder.

But who will they go for? The decision could be crucial. Here are my thoughts...

Joanne/Sharon

Murdering whoever survives the banishment feels like a silly move, as the remaining celebrity will be a prime suspect.

Michael

I don’t think they’ll go for Michael. Plenty of the remaining Faithfuls have started to question how the actor has survived this long - and the only logical conclusion, for them, will surely be that he’s a Traitor.

Bash

I reckon the lovely Sebastian could be at risk of being murdered. Nobody suspects him, so he won’t be getting banished.

Leigh-Anne

Leigh-Anne is another of the Faithfuls who has faced a lot of heat. If I was a Traitor, I’d keep her around.

Romesh

It pains me to say it... but maybe murdering Romesh would be a good move (sorry!). I love him in the castle but he’s very persuasive and speaks so well. While he’s not onto the Traitors right now, if he does develop a correct theory, he’ll have no problem convincing people.

James Blunt

James B is wrong at every turn, isn’t he? What he lacks in detective skills, he makes up for in entertainment value. Would he be good to murder? I’m torn.

Thursday 29 October 2026 18:30 , Rachel McGrath

Shall we have a little look back at one of the biggest moments of last week?

The Traitors’ decision to murder Miranda certainly threw off the Faithfuls...

Thursday 29 October 2026 18:00 , Rachel McGrath

Bookies' odds ahead of the final

Thursday 29 October 2026 16:30 , Rachel McGrath

With less than 48 hours to go until the grand final, the bookies have given their verdict on who is most likely to win — and it’s looking good for King Kenny.

The Traitors’ recent recruit is currently being touted as favourite to take the prize pot by Oddschecker, with odds of 7/4. Maya is close behind on 11/4 with their fellow turret dweller James A on 9/2.

Of the Faithfuls, Michael Sheen is ranked as the most likely to win at 14/1, with James B, Leigh-Anne, Romesh and Bash all on 16/1.

Given the banishment cliffhanger, Joanne and Sharon are on 20/1.

This could, of course, all change tonight…

The Traitors producers sure do love a cliffhanger, eh? And last Friday’s episode ended with one of the most dramatic yet.

The players at the roundtable were seen voting for the second time in one night after Joanne McNally and Sharon Rooney received the same number of votes.

The episode ended just before King Kenny’s deciding vote was revealed.

Whichever way it goes, we know the Faithfuls are losing another of their own...
