MANILA, Philippines — Akbayan Rep. Perci Cendaña on Wednesday shrugged off detained Kingdom of Jesus Christ founder Apollo Quiboloy’s reported plan to file libel and cyberlibel complaints against him, Sen. Risa Hontiveros and Rep. Leila de Lima.
Quiboloy’s legal counsels were reportedly set to file the criminal complaints before the Pasig Prosecutor’s Office over statements made by the three lawmakers.
Cendaña said the threat stemmed from his belief in testimonies from the alleged victims of Quiboloy, including allegations that he was a child molester, pedophile and human trafficker.
He also called for Quiboloy’s extradition to the United States to face the charges filed against him there.
“I'd rather be libelous than be a sex trafficker. Thank God, I'm not any of them,” Cendaña said.
The Akbayan lawmaker said the reported libel threat paled in comparison with the intimidation and harassment allegedly faced by Quiboloy’s victims and their families.
“My advice to Quiboloy is for him to devote his time and energy to face his victims in a US court,” Cendaña said.
He also expressed hope that Quiboloy would show remorse for the alleged abuses attributed to him.
