LISTED food manufacturer Century Pacific Food Inc. (CNPF) said it had recovered plastic waste equivalent to 8 billion sachets since 2019, fully offsetting its flexible plastic packaging footprint ahead of requirements specified under the country's Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) law.
In a statement on Wednesday, the company said the waste recovery was carried out through a partnership — now on its seventh year — with environmental organization PCX under the Plastic Cleanup Partner program.
The initiative funds the collection and processing of post-consumer plastic waste through plastic credits, with recovered materials recycled or converted into waste-to-energy inputs instead of ending up in landfills or waterways.
CNPF said the milestone came as plastic pollution remains a major environmental challenge in the Philippines, with the country identified as one of the world's largest contributors of plastic waste entering the oceans.
Apart from funding plastic recovery, Century Pacific said it had expanded sustainability initiatives through its Century Tuna brand's "Saving Our Seas" campaign, which mobilized more than 8,200 volunteers across six coastal sites during the 2025 International Coastal Cleanup Day.
Collected waste was turned over to collection points under HOPE's Aling Tindera program, where women microentrepreneurs purchase recyclable materials and prepare them for upcycling and recycling.
The company also said it partnered with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources and the La Union provincial government to promote proper solid waste management and support the implementation of the province's ban on single-use plastics.
"We recognize the responsibility that comes with feeding more homes across the Philippines," CNPF Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Greg Banzon said. "Offsetting our waste footprint isn't perfect, but it is a solution that allows us to act now rather than wait."
The company’s shares on Wednesday rose P0.50, or 1.63 percent, to close at P31.20 each.
