Deputy Commissioner Mukesh Repaswal on Friday presided over a district-level review meeting to assess the implementation, monitoring and reporting of key welfare acts and programmes. The review covered the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, the Protection of Civil Rights Act, the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act (2016), and the Prime Minister’s New 15-Point Programme.
Repaswal directed departmental officials to launch extensive awareness campaigns ensuring that disability welfare schemes reach all eligible beneficiaries. To streamline access, he instructed the Chief Medical Officer to organise special camps across all medical blocks in Chamba for issuing disability certificates. Additionally, the District Welfare Officer was directed to widely publicise scholarship schemes for differently-abled students in higher education institutions.
During the meeting, District Welfare Officer Manjul Thakur reported that Rs 9.99 lakh in disability scholarships was distributed to 94 students in Chamba district during the 2025-26 financial year. She noted that these scholarships support students from primary school through professional courses like engineering, medicine and law.
The meeting also evaluated progress under the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act and the PM’s 15-Point Programme. Officials held detailed discussions on pending cases, relief assistance for victims and compensation liabilities in cases where specific charges were dropped during investigation. Thakur added that Rs 8.25 lakh in financial assistance had already been distributed to victims or dependents under the SC/ST Act and its amended rules.
