Kota Kinabalu: Datuk Frankie Liew, President of the Sabah China Chamber of Commerce (SCCC), commended China’s Deepseek AI for its groundbreaking innovation, describing it as a model of “low cost and high efficiency” that breaks the monopoly of major powers.

He expressed optimism for continued cooperation between Sabah and Shenzhen, not just in traditional sectors like trade, culture, and education, but also in emerging technologies and innovative industries, ensuring sustainable growth and regional prosperity.

Liew highlighted that China’s advancements in artificial intelligence offer Sabah the opportunity to leapfrog in development, stressing that the synergy between Shenzhen and Sabah could generate significant spillover effects in various sectors.

He made these remarks during a visit to Shenzhen, leading a delegation from SCCC that included 29 members from the Council and Young Entrepreneurs Group (YE), such as Vice President Chiew Heng Hock, Director of Commercial Affairs Douglas Fong, and several other prominent entrepreneurs.

The delegation met with officials from the Shenzhen Municipal Bureau of Commerce and various enterprises to enhance business connections between Sabah and Shenzhen.

Liew said the visit’s purpose was to facilitate resource sharing and explore mutual benefits, with the goal of expanding business opportunities, especially in areas like cross-border e-commerce, logistics, agricultural products, frozen food supply chains, automation technology, and AI robotics.

During the visit, Liu Mian, Director of the Foreign Cooperation Division of the Shenzhen Municipal Bureau of Commerce, highlighted Shenzhen’s technological advantages and desire to collaborate with Sabah to expand trade and investment.

The delegation also presented insights into Sabah’s key industries, expressing hope for long-term partnerships and market expansion.

Liew emphasised that the exchange had laid the groundwork for future collaborations, focusing on concrete projects that would drive economic development in both regions.

He noted that both sides were committed to further strengthening communication and collaboration, ensuring that these efforts would translate into real, impactful cooperation.

Additionally, the SCCC delegation visited Foshan Tieren Environmental Technology Co., Ltd., where they explored advanced environmental technologies and potential cooperation in this sector.

The delegation toured the company’s research and development centres and production facilities, gaining valuable insights into its innovative solutions for environmental sustainability. Both parties discussed opportunities for future collaboration, with Liew extending an invitation for Chinese representatives to visit Sabah.

Liew concluded by expressing his hope for deepened cooperation with Foshan and other Chinese companies, emphasising that these efforts would contribute to advancing environmental sustainability and fostering stronger bilateral ties between Sabah and China.
