Kota Kinabalu: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s directive to Petronas to establish a new power plant and allocate a specific budget for water-related issues, including the replacement of three water pumps at Pulau Enoe, Bukit Kalam and Patau Patau in Labuan is commendable, said the Labuan Chamber of Commerce (LCC).
Its chairman Ts Daniel Daughty said: “Labuanites are optimistic, seeing a tangible resolution on the horizon, thanks to the Prime Minister’s efforts to address these critical issues.
“We also want to highlight the significant speeches and proposals of Tan Sri Anifah Aman, whose brave proposals have been widely accepted by both the Labuan community and its business sector,” he added.
Among Anifah’s recommendations, Daniel said is to give the chairmanship of a high level executive committee known as “JawatanKuasa Eksekutif Perancang Wilayah Persekutuan Labuan” to Perbadanan Labuan, the expansion of the 3pc tax to additional business sectors, thus transforming Labuan into a fully-fledged offshore island and the proposal to retain certain amount of tax collected to Labuan are groundbreaking.
