  • Jorge Costa, the former Porto captain and current director of professional football, died on Tuesday at the age of 53 after suffering a cardiac arrest at the club’s training centre.
  • The former defender made 383 appearances for Porto and earned 50 caps for Portugal, helping the national side reach the Euro 2000 semi-finals.
  • As captain, Costa famously led Porto to UEFA Cup glory in 2003 and a Champions League triumph in 2004 under manager Jose Mourinho.
  • He was one of only six players to win five consecutive Portuguese league championships with Porto during his illustrious career.
