The two accused arrested for the June 13 shooting at Shri Kumar Medical Hall in Sector 11, Chandigarh, were injured in a police encounter in Dhanas in the wee hours of Thursday.

The accused, identified as Aryan and Sunny Mehra, were arrested in Jammu and Kashmir and brought to Chandigarh on Wednesday night. According to police sources, while being escorted to the Crime Branch office, the duo allegedly attempted to escape near the Dhanas jungle road area.

Police personnel accompanying them reacted swiftly and opened fire, injuring both accused. They were subsequently admitted to the Government Multi-Speciality Hospital, Sector 16, for treatment.

The encounter was carried out by teams of the Chandigarh Police Crime Branch and Operation Cell, which were escorting the accused following their arrest.

Aryan and Sunny were arrested on Wednesday in connection with the broad daylight attack at Shri Kumar Medical Hall in Sector 11 that claimed the life of 45-year-old Janki Das.

Sources said a third accused remains absconding. They also claimed that Sunny was the alleged shooter who fired 13 rounds from a sophisticated weapon, although police have not officially confirmed this. The weapons used in the crime are yet to be recovered.

The investigation is ongoing.

Police tracked the accused after an intensive three-day manhunt, eventually locating them in Rajouri, Jammu & Kashmir. Sources said police teams from multiple states were involved in the operation.
