Union Territory Mayor Saurabh Joshi on Wednesday, laid the foundation stone for a new water supply pipeline in Milk Colony in Dhanas.

The foundation stone for the project was laid in the presence of Kuljeet Singh Sandhu, former senior deputy mayor and area councillor, Chief Engineer Sanjay Arora and senior officers of the municipal corporation and local residents.

Speaking on the occasion, the Joshi said the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh remains committed to upgrading basic civic infrastructure and ensuring reliable public services for citizens across the city.

He said the existing old C.I. water supply pipeline in the area had been facing frequent leakages for several years, resulting in water wastage and repeated damage to roads, causing inconvenience to residents.

Joshi also said keeping in view the long-pending demand of residents, the corporation has initiated the project for laying a new D.I. water supply pipeline to ensure smooth, efficient and uninterrupted water supply in the locality.

He added that the civic body is continuously working towards improving underground infrastructure to provide better living conditions to citizens.

Sandhu appreciated the initiative taken by the corporation and said this is the first major water supply project in the ward after a long time.

He said the project would bring significant relief to residents of Milk Colony, Dhanas and further strengthen the basic infrastructure of the area.

Arora informed that the existing pipeline was nearly 25 years old and had become increasingly difficult to repair because of its deteriorated condition.

He said the new project, estimated to cost around Rs 18 lakh, will help curb water leakages, prevent recurring road damage and improve the overall efficiency of water distribution in the locality. He assured that the work would be completed within the stipulated timeframe.
