The court had said that at the next hearing, the MC must demonstrate that the area had been genuinely cleaned.

The Chandigarh Municipal Corporation has asked its executive engineers to deploy supervisory staff for monitoring the removal of non-biodegradable waste from the Dadumajra dumping ground in compliance with the Punjab and Haryana HC directions.

According to the order issued by the Superintending Engineers of building and roads, and horticulture wings, the high court had directed to ensure the complete removal of the waste from the dumping ground on or before May 26.

It said all available supervisory staff up to the level of the sub-divisional engineer (SDE) be deployed along with requisite machinery, manpower and equipment to complete the task. The supervisory staff will have to monitor the functioning of labourers and machinery to achieve the target.

The order warned that any lapse in complying with the directions would be viewed seriously in light of HC directions. The order comes days after the HC sought a detailed status report over the waste removal from the MC by the next hearing.

The court had said that at the next hearing, the MC must demonstrate that the area had been genuinely cleaned. Dyal Krishan, a resident of Dadumajra, said the civic body missed several deadlines in the past for removal of the garbage, resulting in several heath issues such as asthma, tuberculosis and several skin-related problems.
