
Chandigarh’s Poonam Verma earned the nation’s highest nursing honour when she was conferred with the prestigious Florence Nightingale Award at the Rashtrapati Bhavan by President Droupadi Murmu on Tuesday.
A total of 15 nurses from diverse regions and healthcare settings were honoured in recognition of their exemplary service, unwavering dedication to strengthening public health delivery and outstanding commitment to the welfare of the community.
During the Covid-19 pandemic, Verma had worked as a dedicated frontline warrior and contributed significantly to the labour room team under the LaQshya certification programme and the ICU standard operating procedures team.
Kulwinder Parhi, presently serving as sub-inspector, auxiliary nurse midwife at Frontier Hospital, Leh, has also been honoured for her 28 years of service, rendered in some of the most difficult hilly and tribal regions.
Pooja Parmar Rana, auxiliary nurse midwife at community health centre, Naugaon, Uttarakhand, has been recognised for her 15 years of service in the Himalayan region. She made a remarkable contribution as the first Covid-19 vaccinator in the Yamuna bank area, successfully achieving 100% vaccination coverage.
