KUALA LUMPUR: A food vendor, allegedly in Penang, has sparked debate online after claiming a customer fled without paying for a plate of char kuey teow priced at RM59.
The vendor said the customer had ordered a ‘special’ version of the dish, which included prawns, cockles, an egg and sliced chillies, before asking for an extra half-boiled egg.
He explained in a video posted on Facebook that the price was RM59 and not RM59,000, but the customer bolted upon hearing the amount.
The vendor described the customer as arrogant and urged people to support his business despite the incident.
However, many social media users sided with the customer and criticised the price as unreasonable.
One commenter asked if lobster or lamb shank had been included, while another joked whether instalments were accepted.
Some also urged the Domestic Trade and Costs of Living Ministry (KPDN) to investigate the matter.
