Kota Kinabalu: Two companies claimed trial in the Magistrate’s Court here with smuggling 166,040 sacks of Vietnamese rice worth a total of RM9,3752,12.75, six years ago.

DD 168 Agency and BGC Trading (L) Sdn Bhd represented by its representative each were re-charged with the offence before Magistrate Wan Farrah Farriza Wan Ghazali.

The offence allegedly took place on Sept 11, 2018, between 5.30pm and 6.30pm, also at Sepanggar Port.

Customs Department prosecuting officer proposed bail at RM5,000.

Chew informed the court that the company had previously been charged in the Magistrates’ Court but was given a discharge not amounting to an acquittal (DNAA) in October, 2024.

She added that the case had been ongoing for six years before the company was given the DNAA, and that no bail had been granted when the company was previously charged.

BGC Trading (L) Sdn Bhd was represented by counsel Carl Barnabas Malanjum.

The court fixed March 6 for pre-trial case management for both cases.

No bail imposed since the charges were against companies, said Wan Farrah.
