Concerned about what is happening in UMNO and just out of curiosity how AI would respond, I decided to ask ChatGPT about internal conflicts within a political party and what are its possible consequences.
The reply came back within a split second. ChatGPT says:
"Internal conflict within a political party can have several negative consequences such as:
• Loss of unity and cohesiveness.
• Decline in public support and credibility.
• Infighting and division among party members.
• Difficulty in presenting a clear and united message to the public.
• Decreased ability to advance party goals and policies.
• Loss of political power and influence."
Obviously the above is in many ways a reflection of what is currently taking place in UMNO.
UMNO is suffering from loss of unity and cohesiveness. There is a serious split within the party which led to the recent purge by the President who is alleged to be more concerned about his own presidency than party cohesion.
Secondly, there is a decline in public support and credibility. Speculations are rife that UMNO has lost its credibility and its chances in coming state elections might not be good at all. The perception of UMNO leadership which compromised the major resolution of not wanting to work with political rivals made the rakyat lose faith in the UMNO hence the loss in credibility.
Infighting and division among party members and difficulty in presenting a clear and united message to the public is very apparent after a purge of more than 50 members who were alleged to be working against party interests by the leadership that many say are trying hard to cling to power.
Consequently, it has reduced its ability to advance party goals and policies to the general public and eventually lose its political power and influence. In fact since GE14 it had lost most of its influence and power. It became more glaring by GE15.
If the above is a possible scenario I asked ChatGPT, "Is UMNO different from any political party in the world? "
ChatGPT replies: "UMNO, like any political party, may face challenges that could potentially lead to its downfall. These challenges can include internal conflicts, declining public support, lack of relevance in current political landscape, corruption scandals, and failure to adapt to changing societal needs and expectations."
Then I askef ChatGPT: Normally how many years after serious internal conflict broke out within a political party before it may experience total destruction?
ChatGPT answers: "There is no set time for how long it takes for a political party to completely fall apart after a serious internal conflict. The length of time can vary greatly depending on the severity of the conflict, the resilience of the party, and the actions taken by party leaders to resolve the conflict."
"Some political parties may be able to recover from internal conflicts and continue to thrive, while others may never fully recover and eventually disintegrate.
"It's also worth noting that internal conflicts within political parties can be a normal part of the political process and can actually serve to strengthen the party by allowing for the airing of different perspectives and leading to the development of new strategies.
"However, if the internal conflict is not properly managed, it can result in long-term damage to the party and its ability to effectively represent its constituents."
Thinking about leadership crisis in UMNO, I engaged ChatGPT on the issue of autocratic leadership. So I asked, "What about an autocratic leader of political party in a democracy?"
ChatGPT commented: "An authocratic leader of political party in a democracy is a threat to nation building. If a president turned autocratic obviously nation building may be hampered."
Then I asked about the future, what else do you foresee?
ChatGPT replies: "As an AI language model, I don't have personal opinions or the ability to predict the future. However, I can provide information and analysis based on past events and trends to help make informed predictions."
"In general, the future of a political party after an internal conflict depends on many factors, including the root causes of the conflict, the leadership's ability to manage the conflict, the party's ability to adapt to changing circumstances, and the level of support from its constituents."
"If the party is able to effectively address the issues that led to the conflict and gain the support of its members and voters, it may be able to recover and move forward."
"On the other hand, if the party is unable to resolve the conflict or if the conflict reveals deeper underlying issues, it may lead to the decline and eventual collapse of the party."
However, as a human I have feelings but do not have the ability to offer a guess as to how UMNO will fare in forthcoming state elections or in GE16.
All I can say is what Noh Omar the ousted UMNO leader said. That his former party will not win in Selangor. I feel likewise. But I have no solid data. I can feel it in my bones. But AI like ChatGPT just can't.
Since ChatGPT could not tell more than that about UMNO I asked how long did Germany's Third Reich last.
ChatGPT answered "The Third Reich also known as Nazi Germany, lasted from January 30, 1933, when Hitler was appointed Chancellor of Germany, to May 8, 1945, when Germany officially surrendered to the Allies, marking the end of World War II in Europe."
"The Third Reich was characterized by Hitler's dictatorship, aggressive territorial expansion, and the systematic extermination of six million Jews and other minority groups in what is now known as the Holocaust. The Third Reich lasted for just 12 years."
UMNO has been around since May 11 1946, a mere 77 years old. It's not likely to follow the path of The Third Reich any time soon.
Although there are signs of authoritarianism I do not believe any Hitler like character will be taking over as President. Democracy will prevail.
Have faith in the sanity of UMNO members. They will certainly not allow themselves to be fooled by someone like Hitler.
ChatGPT with whom I have been chatting the last few hours, cannot sense that. It is an AI.
But me, I am human I know Malays will not tolerate a Hitler in their midst. Except if they were brainwashed.
