A Malaysian man, Nizam Nizam, took to the Complaint Singapore Facebook group to share how he feels living in Singapore is much cheaper than Kuala Lumpur, now that he is working in the neighbouring country.

He wrote, “When I was living in KL, with a local’s spending power, I often spent RM30 to RM60 for meals and snacks every time I go out. Even when I went to a cheap eatery, it was RM12 for chicken rice.”

“Now, I’ve come to Singapore and am earning (their) local money. Everything in Singapore is really cheap, cheap, cheap. Fast food, hawker centres, restaurants are really cheap, cheap, cheap, with (their) local spending power.”

Singaporeans, be grateful!

Due to the sudden boost in his spending power through earning in Singapore, he went on to share how he feels awkward when Singaporeans complain about the prices there.

“I cringe when my (Singaporean) colleagues complain that GST has gone up and everything is ‘expensive’,”

“Only cars here are expensive. I would argue that, as long as you meet the requirements, housing is cheap despite it being a shoe box. Travel a little bit and you will know that your government has done a great job in keeping costs affordable for middle-income families. It’s not easy to do that for Singapore,” he added.

His post received mixed reactions.
