KUALA LUMPUR – The government announced lower toll rates starting tomorrow for the Sg Besi Expressway (Besraya) and the Kajang-Seremban Expressway (Lekas) for all Class 1 vehicles.
In a statement today, Public Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi said there will be a 15 sen reduction for all Class 1 vehicles passing through the Loke Yew and Mines toll plazas (north and south) on the Besraya expressway.
On the Lekas Expressway, toll rates for Class 1 vehicles that use the closed toll system will be reduced from 0.1811 sen/km to 0.1666 sen/km.
The rates however remain the same for vehicles who use the open toll system, which is at the Ampangan toll plaza.
Nanta briefly explained that previously, Class 1 vehicles were charged RM2 on Besraya and RM8.30 for those travelling the full length of the Lekas expressway.
The reduction in toll will now see Besraya Class 1 users charged RM1.85 and RM7.80 for the Lekas expressway.
“Through restructuring and reduction of toll rates for both expressways, the government can save up to RM 1.978 billion in compensation payments and the funds can then be funnelled to help Malaysians with basic needs,” said Nanta in the statement.
Nanta said this initiative is also part of the government’s efforts to address rising costs of living among Malaysians, but assured that the government will keep to their agreed obligations. – The Vibes, December 31, 2022
