FIFA’s decision to suspend Folarin Balogun’s World Cup 2026 red card continues to spark huge debate and British journalist Piers Morgan is unhappy about it.
USMNT star Balogun is able to play for his country in its last 16 clash with Belgium despite the fact the striker was sent off when playing against Bosnia and Herzegovina in the round of 32.
In almost unprecedented scenes in the World Cup, the game’s governing body suspended Balogun’s one-match suspension for 12 months following an intervention from US President Donald Trump.
That has attracted huge criticism and Morgan is among the many media figures who have hit out.
Morgan says US have cheated
Morgan was speaking to USMNT fans and American TV personalities Clay Travis and Ben Ferguson on his ‘Uncensored’ show.
He said: “You guys are cheating. You are cheating.”
Travis responded and said such rulings are simply part of the fabric of American sports.
Ferguson, meanwhile, suggested that other countries are merely jealous they do not have a “strong” leader such as Trump to intervene in matters like this.
Balogun has certainly been caught up in quite the storm. The forward has been powerless in all of this yet he is currently the biggest story at the World Cup for reasons beyond his control.
FIFA have been slammed for their decision on Balogun’s red card and it has threatened to open up a proverbial can of worms.
Reports now suggest that England are considering appealing the red card that Jarell Quansah received during their dramatic last 16 clash with Mexico.
It is certainly difficult to imagine other countries not at least thinking of doing something similar if they are to receive dubious red cards during the remaining games of the tournament.
