CHEd delays implementation of education curriculum revamp

The Commission on Higher Education said that it would delay the implementation of the reframed General Education (GE) curriculum to 2028 to give its technical panel more time to study the plan.

In a press briefing on Wednesday night, CHEd Chairman Shirley Agrupis said that listened to the manifestations of different education stakeholders on the plan to revamp the GE curriculum for higher education.

"We came to a decision that there will be no [reframed] GE implementation across all school year, this is to give us time, especially the technical panel and the Department of Education to analyze and study the different manifestations because we understand where they are coming from," Agrupis said.

She said that an inter-agency technical working group will be crreated to study the "insights" given by the different stakeholders in the reframing of the GE curriculum.

Agrupis maintained that the reframed GE curriculum aims to be more "integrated and more skills-based to better align with workforce needs."

"The main goal of this proposed reframing is to review and eliminate the redundancies between the senior high school and college courses and also to avoid misalignment between intended outcomes and contemporary learner realities and significant gaps in the integration of the emerging competencies," she added.
