SANDAKAN: A pair of male and female oriental pied hornbills (Anthracoceros albirostris) was spotted at the Forest Research Centre (FRC) in Sepilok, near the Rainforest Discovery Centre (RDC), on Monday, offering close interaction with those at the centre.
The video, recorded by Dayang Fazrinah and shared on Facebook, shows the two hornbills (pic) perched together while chirping and playfully knocking on the glass windows, prompting a light-hearted narration imagining the birds as a couple enjoying a quiet afternoon date.
“They’re sitting together as a pair... they’re on a date this afternoon,” Dayang said before teasing, “those who are single must feel sad watching them.”The oriental pied hornbill is classified as a species of Least Concern on the IUCN Red List.
They are a familiar sight in Sabah’s forests, and the cheerful encounter offers another glimpse of the species in its natural habitat while highlighting the rich wildlife found around the FRC and RDC in Sepilok.
