The Food and Beverage (F&B) scene at Bangi Business Park in Bandar Baru Bangi (BBB), is on fire. There are new restaurants, coffee shops and street stalls opening every week, catering to the full range of international and local tastes. Many of my newly arrived foreign friends, may take them time to understand how many parallel dining “scenes” there are in BBB. Each has a different client base. Those at the top of the food chain, the affluent Malaysians, move freely between places serving Western, Asian, and the local cuisine.

There are many restaurants run by foreigners in BBB. In fact, you can get fantastic Japanese, Korean, Indonesian, South Indian, Italian & Chinese cuisine in this town. The diversity and relatively low cost of these restaurants is one the benefits of living in BBB, Kajang, and the neighbourhood of Putrajaya and Cyberjaya. (www.tripadvisor.com.my > Restaurants)

It is no exaggeration to say that Chef Jaja (left) has spent her life preparing the table for the people of the world to enjoy Malaysian traditional food & remains a work-in-progress. Photo: Zarina

From my own experience with Malaysia Airlines (MAS) catering services, the taste of cuisine is a very important factor when choosing a restaurant. Of course cleanliness, quality of food, good customer service, pricing and time factors, inclusive of the name, portfolios and reputation of the chefs. Overall, becoming a successful chef requires a combination of culinary knowledge and skills, creativity, attention to detail, adaptability, teamwork, time management, business communication skills, physical stamina, passion, and dedication.

Evidently, my wife, Zarina and I were attracted with the one year old F&B outlet, Restoran Makan KAW KAW at BBB that served amazing local food, great services and beautiful atmosphere owned by an entrepreneur, Mr. Liew and managed by Chef Jaja. We discovered Chef Jaja is a talented chef with 10 years of experience working with Petronas Twin Towers Restaurants including Malaysian Petroleum Club in KLCC. She combines technical skills with creativity, leadership, and a passion for food, all being adaptable skilful and knowledgeable about the culinary world. These qualities not only enhance her cooking but also contribute to a positive kitchen environment. (restoranmakankawkaw@gmail.com)
