Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino insists he rates the quality of his players.
Pochettino explained his post-match comments after their thrashing by Wolves ahead of their FA Cup replay with Aston Villa.
The manager said: "Yes, I want to clarify because after I listen to more TV and media than before, someone takes out of context, my words. That question that came from my press conference after Wolves, and the question was, 'Are the players good enough to be in the top four, or top six?' I said: 'Today, we were not good enough and me the first'.
"After it said, 'Pochettino said the players were not good enough'. What? It's not to take out of context my words. Today, or in this game, we were not good enough and that is the reality, I don't want to hide the reality. That is why be careful in the way that some people take my words. Some people take advantage of the situation, that maybe we lose some games, to say things that never appeared in my mouth. That upset me a little bit but it's part of this business.
"The most difficult thing is to explain to my wife, because she says, 'Why are you saying he's not good enough? Look at this guy, he's world champion', and then I say I never said that. I need to show her the post-match press conference. It is the reality we are living and that is why the responsibility is massive.
"I am a coach, huh? A head coach and sometimes we can make a mistake but that is football, that happened and we need to keep moving and stay strong. I think we have very good group of players. [But] for different reasons, like I have explained, we are not performing in the way people expect and always when the expectation is different to the reality, it is difficult to get what you deserve.
"That is why the patience never arrived. After losing against Liverpool, it was like, 'Massive, massive fail. Look at Chelsea, how bad'. And of course, they lose now, Liverpool, against Arsenal and I didn't listen [to] nothing about that there is a similar result when we played against Liverpool.
"Look, what happened against Liverpool is affecting the players because we are a team that need confidence and all of the support. The people need to realise the situation and we cannot send different messages to the people, and the people believe that things have not happened.
"That is why we are demanding the support to the team, to the players because we know the quality. The players have an amazing quality. The problem is it takes time to build a team. That is the reality we need to translate to the fans and for the fans to be patient. Of course we are going to find a way to fix. Too many things to fix before talking tactics and talking football, but we are trying to fix all of the things. Yes, as soon as possible, for sure we are going to perform and be in the position the club deserve."
